Small, intimate, and parking is really non-existent, at least AT the restaurant but worth the effort to get there. Park along King Street. The prices are perfect along with the portions, and the preparation is spot on. I had the fried chicken, butterbeans and beets. The butterbeans were extremely good, the chicken was tender and again, I love the portions. I sampled the sweet potatoes - very good. 6 of us dined for $70 (no alcohol).
We were there early (5:45) and it was packed by time we left with people waiting. Highly recommended, especially if you like home cooking.
Mom and Pops, Great Food, Always Made Fresh
I asked the server if the crabcakes were made fresh. He answered and said that everything there was made fresh. That was so true, even the ketchup and tarter sauce were made fresh. The food turned out to be extremely delicious. I ordered the crabcakes with mac and cheese and soup on the side. Everything was great but I would have to recommend the Mac and Cheese. It was nice and rich, must have been made with sharp white cheddar. This place is a hidden gem in Boone and I would highly recommend it after a day of hiking or snowboarding.
Proper has great simple home cooking.
We went to Sunday Brunch. It was excellent. I had the biscuits and gravy with a side of sweet bacon. Both were more than good.
My husband had the berry salad. Greens, ripe fruit with goats cheese. He raved about it and his coffee.
We both had excellent desserts. Peach cobbler with ice cream and key lime pie. The cobbler was baked and served in an individual dish with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. The key lime pie was tart just the way my husband likes it.
The food was simple and fresh. This place buys local foods from local farms. She supports a growing community of local farmers. We will be back, I have yet to have the collards everyone raves about. How often to you hear men make that hmmm noise and go...'those were the best collards I have ever had' I have got to get me some of them collards.
